the 2016 grant application deadline has passed

The 2016 4TW5K grant recipients will be announced in April. If you would like to make a contribution to the organizations we're supporting this year, you may do so here.
QUALIFICATIONS
In the application form please include the name of your organization, contact information, the amount of funds being requested ($25,000 max), and specifically how these funds will be used in direct support of local wounded warriors and/or military veterans, if awarded. Please keep in mind that we are looking for non-profit organizations that provide a direct service to wounded warriors and/or military veterans in the local area. Furthermore, we want to maximize the benefit to those individuals.  In that spirit, there are certain types of expenses that are not eligible for these 4TW5K grants, including the following:
  • Debt Reduction
  • Annual Appeals
  • Political Action Groups
  • Endowments
Upon receipt, all applications will be reviewed by the University of Virginia Foundation 4TW5K Grants Sub-Committee.  The organizations that appear to provide the most benefit to local wounded warriors and/or military veterans will receive an invitation to present their program to the sub-committee as part of the final selection process.  At that time, each organization contacted will also need to provide the following documentation:
  1. Proof of current nonprofit and tax exempt status, as defined by Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code and the Virginia Tax Code.
  2. Evidence that the organization is directed and managed by an active, local/regional, non-paid, volunteer Board of Directors that meets at least quarterly each year, and effectively manages the affairs of the organization.
  3. Most recent Fiscal Year IRS 990.
  4. Evidence that the organization directly provides programs and services to benefit wounded warriors and/or military veterans at no cost to their constituents within the Piedmont and Shenandoah Valley areas, to include the City of Charlottesville, and the counties of Albemarle, Augusta, Fluvanna, Greene, Louisa, Madison, and Nelson.
  5. Most recent fiscal year audit.  If an organization’s revenues are under $200,000, a financial compilation in accordance with Statements and Standards for Accounting and Review Services issued by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants will be deemed sufficient in lieu of an audit.  If an organization’s revenues are under $50,000, internal financial statements are sufficient in lieu of an audit or financial compilation.
  6. A statement explaining how any funds received will be used to benefit wounded warriors and/or military veterans in Piedmont and Shenandoah Valley areas within the calendar year 2015.
Organizations receiving a 4TW5K grant must also agree to provide a Final Report at the end of calendar year 2016, signed by the Executive Director/President outlining how the funds were or are being expended to benefit wounded warriors and/or military veterans.

Only applications submitted via the form at left will be considered. Applicants will be notified by March 8  as to whether or not the application results in an invitation to appear in person for a presentation.  All notifications will be sent via e-mail.

All inquiries regarding the application should be directed to Katie at km9ua@virginia.edu. The UVA Foundation is unable to accept calls regarding the application process at this time.

Thank you for your support of our wounded warriors - we look forward to learning more about you!
